Context of Role

Teesside Hospice are changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families who’ve been affected by a terminal illness.

Teesside Hospice support around 3,000 people in Tees Valley, primarily in Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.

Role Description

Teesside Hospice are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Engagement Volunteer to represent their Hospice within local charity shops.

This role will focus on utilising these shops as community hubs to recruit new volunteers, engage individuals in fundraising activities, and raise awareness of the vital services the Hospice offers.

The ideal candidate will be a friendly, outgoing individual with a strong commitment to community engagement and support for end-of-life care.

Please note for this role you will need access to your own transport and provide the appropriate driver documentation.

Age Requirements: from 18 years old plus.

Purpose of the Role

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Community Engagement: visit shops regularly to foster relationships with staff and customers, creating a welcoming environment to discuss Hospice services and volunteer opportunities.
  • Recruitment: actively promote the benefits of volunteering with the Hospice, encouraging shop patrons to get involved through informational materials and personal conversations.
  • Fundraising Activities: organize and promote fundraising events and initiatives within the charity shops, motivating the community to participate and contribute.
  • Awareness Raising: share information about the services provided by the Hospice, including patient care, bereavement support, and community programs, to help demystify hospice care and encourage community support.
  • Collaboration: work closely with Hospice staff and other volunteers to ensure consistency in messaging and to coordinate joint activities or events.
  • Feedback Collection: gather feedback and insights from shop staff and customers about their perceptions of the Hospice and potential areas for improvement or further engagement.
  • Reporting: maintain records of engagement activities, volunteer sign-ups, and feedback, providing regular updates to the Hospice volunteer coordinator.
