Context of Role

Blue Cabin is a charitable incorporated organisation which develops and strengthens relationships between care experienced individuals and people in their lives through creative activities.

This is the Place is their programme of music-making sessions for babies and children.

It includes music sessions tailored for babies and children aged 0 to 5 years and their carers, and events held at various cultural venues, giving care-experienced families the opportunity to experience the town’s cultural offer together, perhaps for the first time.

Delivered in partnership with staff from Darlington Borough Council’s Fostering and Supported Lodgings team and Redcar & Cleveland Virtual School, the sessions are underpinned by social pedagogy and help care-experienced babies and children build stronger relationships.

Role Description

Blue Cabin is excited to be recruiting for volunteers in Redcar & Cleveland to support their This is The Place project.

This is The Place Volunteers will work alongside members of the Blue Cabin team to support the running of weekly music-making sessions for up to eight babies and children and their supporting adults every week during term time.

No specific academic qualifications are needed to be a Blue Cabin volunteer.

You’ll need to complete basic safeguarding training and do a DBS disclosure check for this role.

Purpose of the Role

You will be asked to:

  • Meet and greet participants and partners.
  • Help set up and tidy away after an activity or event.
  • Support babies/children and supporting adults to participate and play.
  • Support participants as they take part, this involves sitting alongside them, taking part in music activities, having a chat.
  • Handing out refreshments during break.
  • Helping with general administration tasks, such as taking the register and managing the start/finish areas.
  • Say goodbye to participants and clear up activities.
  • Take part in de-brief conversations (face to face or online).
