Context of Role

The Friends of Silver Mews support the work of the Silver Mews Care Home. Situated in the heart of a residential community in the seaside town of Redcar. Silver Mews is a 41 bedded care home offering a range of care including Residential, Respite and Dementia care.

The Friends aim to improve the quality of life of the residents of the care home by working with staff, residents and relatives.

Role Description

Are you a chatty, kind and caring person? Are you passionate about supporting people? Then the Silver Mews Care Home need you!

They are looking for Befriender Volunteers. The role will take between 2 – 4 hours of your time per week. You will have 30 minutes once a week to see a resident in the care home to keep them company.

Purpose of the Role

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Establish and build a friendly and open befriending relationship with the resident whilst establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Maintain confidentiality, except in reporting back to the person that supports you, or in circumstances that will be discussed in your training.
  • Notify the person that supports you of any issues, difficulties or concerns the resident has, or about the well-being of the resident.

Skills acquired: Communication Skills, Community Development, Customer Service, Elder Care, Interpersonal Skills, Mental Health, Time Management.
