Role Description
Volunteer Silver Surfer Mentor
Role
Age UK Teesside (Redcar & Cleveland) are looking for a dedicated and patient individual to join our existing Volunteer to who can provide basic IT tuition on both a one-to-one basis and in a group setting to people over 65. The aim is to help attendees to learn the basics of their laptops, smart phones or devices.
The service is delivered by Age UK Teesside and supported by Redcar and Cleveland Council.
Responsibilities
To attend the weekly Silver Surfers session at Marske Library from 10am-12.30pm
To communicate effectively with attendees about how to use their laptop, smart phone or tablet
To work with the existing Volunteer and Silver Surfer Coordinator to reduce the barriers to technology and further reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness amongst older people
To report any concerns to Silver Surfer Coordinator
To observe Age UK Teesside policies and procedures and provide information for monitoring purposes
To undertake suitable training to assist in your role as an Age UK Teesside Volunteer
Skills and Knowledge
Volunteers should be reliable, non-judgemental and have good communication skills. Knowledge of issues affecting the client group and previous volunteering experience is desirable, but not essential. The ability to build good rapport and be respectful is essential. Basic technology skills required. Examples include; how to send an email, how to attach a photo to an email, saving a ‘Contact’ in a mobile phone, how to navigate a keyboard ‘Caps Lock’ ‘symbols’ etc. Volunteers with experience of working with elderly client group is desirable.
Additional information
The Volunteer will be supported by the Silver Surfers Co-ordinator and offered additional training, re-imbursement of expenses and the opportunity to attend informal volunteer get-togethers. This role requires a DBS check and 2 character references
Footprints Volunteer Role – Receptionist/Admin Support
Description of Project | |
Footprints in the Community provides a network of support to people in the Redcar & Cleveland area, through a number of projects, including: Redcar Area Foodbank, Next Step Shop, First Steps, Footprints Cafe, Men’s Shed, Reflections Dementia Support, Lunchbox and Redcar Beacons. These projects all require administrative support. The office is based at 10 Queen Street, Redcar – Monday to Friday, during usual office hours. |

Typical duties will include: ● Reception desk duties, including welcoming and signing in/out visitors and taking receipt of post/deliveries ● General office duties, including filing and photocopying ● Data input and typing documents ● Other administrative tasks, as needed |

You will need: ● Good level of basic computer skills ● Clear and confident telephone manner ● Good organisation skills You will be part of a small team so must be flexible and willing to help where needed. Confidentiality and data protection are vital for this role. |

Footprints Volunteer Role – Footprints Café & Catering
Description of Project | |
Footprints cafe is a community cafe, offering fresh, healthy and affordable food in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. There is a breakfast, lunch and snack menu, with gluten-free and vegan choices. The cafe is open Monday to Saturday 9am – 3pm, inside South Tees Community Bank (14 High Street, Redcar). |

Typical duties will include: ● Welcoming customers and taking payment ● Preparing and serving food and drinks ● Clearing tables and washing-up ● Assisting with menu planning and stock control ● Ensuring food safety and hygiene at all times ● Keeping the cafe and kitchen area clean, safe, tidy and well-organised ● Maintaining high standards of personal hygiene (handwashing and general cleanliness) |

A uniform will be provided which must be worn at all times whilst volunteering in the café. No nail varnish can be worn. Shifts will be on a rota basis, either full days or three hour slots. |
