STEWARDS
Kick off the Summer – Friends of Redcar (FRED)
Volunteers are needed to help FRED’s ‘Kick off the summer’ weekend of 24th – 28th May. Roles include stewarding, selling and go-ffering. Also help with sand sculpture event – prep: 24th, 25th, for the event 26th – 28th May.
Food and lubrication and further opportunities throughout the year available. Just let us know what you’re availability is?
Level of commitment – hours throughout the day from 8am to 7pm whatever suits you.
Ukelele Festival
Volunteers are needed on 7th July to act as stewards at a Ukulele Festival which will be held at Redcar College on Saturday 7th July, this will be a family orientated day and then professional performances in the evening. We will use outside and inside space at the college. There will be stalls, food and lots of music throughout the day. We need some support for the festival to be a success. Roles include car parking safely (there is a car park on site), directions, keeping the area tidy, admission to the festival, general support, first aid etc.
BEFRIENDERS
Age Uk are looking for befrienders, particularly in the Marske/New Marske and Guisborough areas to visit people who are 65 + and totally isolated. Car drivers would be an advantage as you may be asked to befriend a person further afield.
British Red Cross
Community Connect volunteers needed to support ‘forgotten people’ aged 18+. This could include people with mental health problems, young mothers, widowed/divorced – adults of all ages who feel they have nowhere to turn. Support will be tailored to their wishes to enable them to realise the things they want to achieve.
Carers Together
Assistant Information & Support Volunteers needed to provide an information and support service for carers to help improve their health and wellbeing and minimise risk of social isolation by providing regular contact and practical support through ‘buddying’, with direction from the Volunteer Coordinator.
Also to support carers in accessing local community activities, services and events.
Volunteers will need the ability to develop action plans and take a solution-focussed approach, communication and listening skills with the ability to record and report effectively also basic First Aid skills.
Welfare Benefits Support required to support our busy Welfare Rights team within Carers Together.
Volunteers will support unpaid carers to complete various benefit application forms, carry out benefit calculations and offer information and advice regarding benefits over the phone and in person.
Volunteers need to have a keen interest in this area of work, a good working knowledge of current benefits is desirable and the ability to complete forms in a legible, concise and accurate manner.
Also need to be approachable and confident with good communication/listening skills. Flexible, reliable and patient.
For both roles the volunteers needs to have a Knowledge of Safeguarding, an understanding of appropriate boundaries, the need for confidentiality and the need to take a non-judgemental approach. Also a good understanding of the challenges facing carers.
Be prepared to undertake mandatory 2 day training, extended welfare benefits training, first aid and any other training that may be required.
This role will be based at Redcar or Middlesbrough offices dependent on current demand.
Leonard Cheshire Home
Activity Volunteers needed to support the residents in playing games, cooking, socialising and sensory activities. The volunteer would be supported by the Activity, Co-ordinator and would become part of our friendly and dynamic team of volunteers.
We also need befrienders to work on a one to one basis with some of our residents to support activities both within the home and in the local community.
Dormanstown Community Sports and Social Group
Volunteers needed to help with the lunch club, youth club and football club (boys and girls).
We are a real community group keen to provide space for sporting/social activities and promote good community relationships.
Circles of Life
We are a learning disability service with a shop selling new and donated goods. The role would be to support people with a learning disability in the shop, giving change etc. also helping them with life skills and various other activities, eg cookery, gardening, crafts , keep fit etc. We believe in pets as therapy so we are raising funds for a community petting farm.
We would like volunteers who can motivate and encourage our people to get the best of what life can offer.
The Grenfell Club
Provides social and leisure activities for adults and children with complex needs.
Volunteers are needed for evening sessions to support and supervise children and adults with special needs with fun activities such as computers, bouncy castle, multi sensory room etc.
Café Volunteer
We also have an opportunity for a volunteer to work in our Cafe on a Saturday morning.
All volunteers will receive a full induction and training.
Stroke Association
Volunteers are needed to provide support and assistance to people with communication difficulties following a stroke.
Stroke survivors are supported in communication groups by trained volunteers, who help manage the communication skills of service users through supported conversation techniques; which in turn supports, encourages and enables people to take part in a wide range of communication based activities.
The aim of the communication group is to help re-build the confidence of all service users in their own communication abilities. This is achieved through a wide range of activities, ranging from discussions and debates through to quizzes, games and other activities, as well as supporting and encouraging all service users to set their own goals moving forward.
All volunteers are trained by the Stroke Association and are supported within the groups by the Communication Support Co-ordinator, who provides all essential materials, equipment and activities for each group session.
Volunteers will be required to attend, on occasion, follow-up meetings to discuss service and client progress and will need to be able to commit to around 3-hours of volunteering every fortnight for around 12 months.
Admin Receptionist – Westfield Farm
Volunteer reception/administrator needed at Westfield Farm – Coast and Country’s Tenant Resource.
Duties include:
Helping visitors carry out job searches, printing out jobs details and keeping job carousel and notice boards up to date. Assisting the Farm Coordinator to organise meetings/ events and celebrations, collate data as requested, make phone calls and send out emails.
Volunteers will need good interpersonal skills/ a warm friendly manner, have good verbal communication (e.g. giving clear information) be able to work as part of a team and use own initiative where necessary.
Level of commitment required for this post is a minimum of 3 hours – either 9.30am-12.30pm or 12.30pm -3.30 pm.
Beanstalk Reading Helpers
Beanstalk is a national charity and their aim is to build a nation of confident children who are literate for life by training and supporting a team of amazing people who volunteer their time to become reading helpers in a local school. Reliability is paramount so you must be able to commit to a minimum of one school year to ensure the children get the consistent support they need.
You would need to undertake a 7 hour pre-placement training course and would receive on-going support from Beanstalk Volunteer Support Worker once placed in a school.
Level of commitment: Beanstalk ask that you are able to commit to 3 hours a week (broken down into two one-and-a-half hour sessions, mostly in the afternoon) and that you are able to do this during term time and school hours.
Cleveland Fire support Network
Aim to educate and protect the health, life and property of the public within the United Kingdom by promoting the issues, services and equipment relating to fire safety and other emergency situations.
