Volunteers urgently needed
Healthwatch
Become a Healthwatch Information volunteer and be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the local community.
Healthwatch Information Volunteers gather local people’s experiences of using health and social care services, both positive and negative, and how they would like things to change.
Healthwatch use this information to influence how services are planned and delivered in the future.
Information is collected by:
- questionnaires in GP surgeries
- holding stalls at hospitals
- Involvement in focus groups
- Health Fair events
- Public consultation events
- Possible Enter and View activities (training provided)
Volunteers must local to the area and over 18 years, however no other special qualifications are required just an interest in health and social care issues.
Age UK
Would you like to be a Volunteer Befriender?
Age UK Teesside’s Befriending Service in Redcar and Cleveland is looking for people to visit a person, aged 65 and over, at their home for a cuppa and a chat. It will require 1 to 2 hours per week of your time and expenses are paid.
The service seeks to provide a befriender to lonely and isolated people who have requested company and a listening ear.
Ross Newton, Befriending Coordinator for Age UK Teesside says, ‘I’d welcome the opportunity of speaking to anyone who is interested in getting involved in the Befriending Service here in Redcar and Cleveland. We have a group of fantastic volunteers and I’m keen to bring new people on board who are happy to give a bit of time each week to help.’
Carole, an award winning volunteer with the service says, ‘I really feel like I’m making a difference to the lives of the people I see. I don’t do it for the thanks but the people I visit are always grateful for me popping by for a chat. I feel supported and valued by the service and love my volunteering work.’
